Today at Gapstars we are celebrating. Celebrating and recognising the ladies in our life. It’s International Women’s Day and we want to champion those amazing women who work with us. This year the theme, ‘Choose to Challenge’ strongly resonates with Gapstars. Challenge generates change and we embrace this wholeheartedly…

As a tech firm, we are all too aware of the gender imbalance within the workforce. The number of women working in this field remains consistently low and has been for the past 30 years. In fact, according to the website womentech.net, a mere 17% of IT specialists are women. It’s hard to imagine such a low figure, but women are up against it. From the outset girls are less likely to study the necessary stem subjects. And when it comes to choosing a vocation, tech appears to have a predetermined path with 33% of boys being offered a career in this field, opposed to just 16% of girls. (isemag.com/2020/10) There are other issues too — the gender pay gap, women being pushed into lesser roles and the lack of visible female role models. What’s strange is, you don’t have to look far to see some of the greatest minds in tech belong to women. We are wholly inspired by the likes of; Jaya Baloo, Avast CISO, Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook COO, Susan Wojcicki YouTube CEO and Ginni Rometty, former CEO at IBM, to name just a few.

So, who are the ‘wonder women’ behind the Gapstars screen? We’re proud to employ 29 highly skilled ladies. They’re an integral part of the team, working across a number of sectors including; Client Tech, Marketing, Sales, Human Resources and Recruitment. We applaud all that they do. For CEO Hugo Hemmen, it’s all about bridging the gender gap. ‘We want to celebrate and recognise our female workforce, not just today, but every day. We’re fully committed to employing more women and are currently involved in establishing a graduate scheme which, we hope, will appeal to every gender. We at Gapstars, “Choose to Challenge”’.

In celebration of our Gapstars women, we will be sharing their stories and knowledge with you during the next month. We want to inspire, educate and motivate whilst putting our leading ladies in the spotlight. But for today, International Women’s Day 2021, we commend and admire all the women in tech who have, no doubt, broken convention and boundaries to get where they are today.
